Custom Ecommerce Redesign: Rebuilding the Store We First Launched in 2023

Engineered Adapters designs and builds vehicle-specific adapters for audio, lighting, and accessory fitment. Randy Brewster founded the company and still runs it, shipping to riders across the United States and internationally. Digital Fire Creative first built engineeredadapters.com in 2023 as a custom WooCommerce store. This case study is the redesign: a complete new custom design on that same store, with the catalog opening from metric motorcycles into UTV and trucks.

The Challenge

Randy came to us in 2023 with a build other agencies had turned down. The site needed a bike compatibility system so a customer could select year, make, and model and see whether a product fit. It needed shipping logic for domestic zones, international rates, dimensional cube calculations, and a bypass for products outside that matrix, including an RV accessory with its own cart path. We built both as custom WooCommerce plugins and structured every product page as a buyer resource: compatibility, specs, what is included, incompatible models, installation instructions, video, and verified reviews. That store ranks number one on Google for the primary product category terms and shows up in AI Overviews with photos and install videos. Three years later the same site had a new job. The catalog is expanding, and the shopping path needed to feel like one custom store, from the product gallery and a fitment question that arrives with the SKU attached through checkout and the customer account.

What We Built

A Complete New Custom Design

The storefront is a new custom design: a dark header, a yellow cart, and navigation for Motorcycle, RV, UTV, Trucks, Gear, install instructions, and dealers. The homepage still opens on the ride photography, then Shop by Vehicle, where a customer picks a motorcycle, a UTV, or an RV, with trucks and gear in the catalog as those lines land. The 2023 compatibility plugin and shipping plugin stayed. The theme around them is new. Terms of Service and Privacy Policy use the theme's type styles and are linked from the footer on every page.

Product Gallery and Install Links

Check Your Fit still sits beside Add to Cart: year, make, and model, then the cart. The main photo has previous and next controls on the edges. They start yellow and turn black on hover, loop through the images, and stay hidden when there is only one photo. The gallery is built for 800×800 product photos, so images match the display without a separate crop. View installation instructions and Want this installed both open in a new tab.

Fitment Questions That Arrive With the Product Attached

Ask us about fitment opens Contact in a new tab with that product already attached. The form shows a box at the top with the product name and SKU. The customer adds a name, email, and comments. The email that goes out includes the product name, SKU, and those comments, and the subject is a fitment question for that product. The regular Contact page stays a general inquiry form.

Checkout and the Customer Account

Billing and Ship to sit side by side on desktop. PayPal and Affirm financing lines sit on a slightly see-through white strip so the original colors stay readable. The terms checkbox links to the terms page and opens it in a new tab. Inside the account, links sit in a side menu. The dashboard lists the last five orders, with View all orders under the last one when there are more. A single order page uses the same dark panels as checkout, with billing and shipping side by side.

The Result

The rankings from the 2023 build are still there. The site ranks number one on Google for the primary product category terms, and on multiple searches it appears in Google AI Overviews with descriptions, product photos, and links to installation videos. The redesign is the store customers use now: a custom design on that foundation, with motorcycle, UTV, RV, and truck categories, a fitment question that names the SKU, and checkout and order history laid out with the rest of the site.

Why It Still Ranks

Search engines and AI tools still read the product page we structured in 2023. Compatibility data, verified reviews, video, installation documentation, and technical specifications sit on the same URL as the buy button. The redesign kept that depth and put a clearer path around it: check the fit, open the install guide, or ask about the exact SKU before ordering. Google has a complete page to cite, which is why Engineered Adapters shows up as the source in the category.

We originally created our own website but as our business grew, it was clear we needed some professional help! Eric took over our website in 2023 with some major and long-overdue improvements.

The site is set-up so we can handle the day-to-day operations like pricing, sales, adding new products, etc. But as we continued to grow, our website needs also needed further improvements.

After several discussions with Eric, who had valuable input for the approach, we just went live with our biggest website updates yet!

The improvements to our customer experience was the focus and he came through with changes that exceed our expectations!

We will continue to use Digital Fire Creative for our website needs in the future and highly recommend for your needs whether you are starting from scratch or require a professional to step in and raise your website to the next level like they did for us!
